Santa Fe, NM June 20, 2019: Reflective Jewelry, a custom and designer jewelry studio in its 24th year of business, has been named Santa Fe, New Mexico’s Green Business of the year by the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe’s Chamber of Commerce.

“This is a great honor, especially given the industry we’re in and the fact that Santa Fe is a green business city,” said Marc Choyt, President of the company.

Reflective Jewelry was recognized at the ceremony for its environmentally responsible practices, integrated into all phases of its company. The retail shop utilizes LED lighting, washable cloth towels, biodegradable bags for shipping, organic dish soap and non-toxic floor cleaners.

Jewelers use citric acid for pickling, fluoride-free flux, a soap-based solution for tumbling, sink traps for catching heavy metals, and vacuums which capture dust and compounds—all of which are recycled.

Their landscape garden, once a concrete foundation in front of their Santa Fe boutique, now has mature apricot and cherry trees and abundant native plants fed by water channeled off their 3500-square foot roof.

The company was among the first manufacturers make all its products in recycled metals back in 2007. Since 2015, Reflective Jewelry became even more impactful through their Fairtrade Gold initiative.

“Though there are over 250 Fairtrade Gold jewelers in the UK alone, we are still the only Fairtrade Gold jewelers in the entire USA,” said Choyt. “We produce our entire two-tone line and much of our bridal collection in Fairtrade Gold. This supports local economies, alleviates poverty, and reduces global mercury contamination for small-scale gold producers.”

Over the past twelve years, Choyt has been a trade watchdogfreelance writer for trade magazinescampaigner for Indigenous miners' rights, and an anti-mining activist in his hometown of Santa Fe, NM where he has lived for over thirty years. Choyt initiated the first ethical jewelry blog in 2006, which evolved into Fair Jewelry Action, a human rights and environmental justice network active between 2010 and 2015. In 2018, he published the open-source Ethical Jewelry Exposé.

Reflective Jewelry has a successful e-commerce site, ReflectiveJewelry.com; and has also sold their product to premium companies, catalogs, and hundreds of stores nationwide.
